The elevator is the principle device through which the Severance chip is activated, triggering the separation of memory enabled by the Severance Procedure. It is located in the Lumon Industries headquarters and provides access between the lobby and the Severed Floor, as well as to other floors.

A number of other floors at Lumon headquarters ostensibly accessible by elevator are revealed on the displays visible in the Security Office. They indicate the existence of a bank of at least four elevators capable of reaching the same set of floors.

An apparently separate elevator leads from the Severed Floor to the Testing Floor.
