The stairwell is another means of access to and from the Lumon Industries Severed Floor. It functions in the same manner as the Elevator, triggering the mechanism in the Severance chip that spatially separates memories. On the corridor side of the stairwell door, severed employees are in their Innie state, and on the stairwell side of the door, they are in their Outie state.
