**The Tree** is a reoccurring symbol in //Severance//. 

For [[Mark Scout|Mark]], the tree represents his grief and love for his late wife, [[Gemma]]. It is believed that Gemma died tragically in a car collision involving a tree approximately two years ago.((Season 1, Episode 1, "[[Good News About Hell]]" ([[in_perpetuity_transcript#section000959057|09:59]]) )) Mark visits the tree to grieve for Gemma, memorialized with a tattered piece of caution tape tied around the trunk.((Season 1, Episode 4, "[[The You You Are]]" (35:47) ))

During a wellness session, [[Ms. Casey]] offers Mark the opportunity to sculpt his feelings in clay, and Mark sculpts a tree not unlike the one involved in Gemma's fatal car crash.
